Exploring Korean History through World Heritage is a book about Korea’s tangible and intangible heritage sites and items inscribed in the UNESCO’s world heritage lists. Containing a wealth of latest information and visual materials, such as photographs, about 19 items of Korean cultural legacy either remaining on the Korean Peninsula or created by Korean people, the book is a helpful introduction to Korean history and culture published for English readers. The priceless tangible and intangible cultural heritage introduced in the book provides readers with an objective, balanced view of Korean history from the prehistoric times to the modern period. The book also contains photographs capturing the latest condition of the heritage, helping readers understand the cultural uniqueness and excellence of the heritages in a more vivid manner.



2010년 발간된 Exploring Korean History through World Heritage를 스페인어로 번역하여 발간한 책이다. 대한민국이 보유하고 있는 유네스코 지정 세계유산을 소개함과 동시에 현재 한반도 내에 남아 있거나 혹은 한민족에 의해 창조된 문화적 흔적으로서 유네스코에 등재된 19점을 통해 한국의 역사와 문화를 외국인들에게 총체적으로 소개하는 데 목적을 두고 발간하였다. 이 책에서 소개되고 있는 19점의 문화유산, 기록유산, 무형유산은 선사시대로부터 근대에 이르기까지 반만년의 대한민국의 역사를 균형 있게 보여준다. 또한 깊이 있는 역사적 관점에서의 집필과 적절한 사진을 활용함으로써 한국의 유구한 역사와 전통에 대해 학습할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 영문판 발간에 이어 영문판의 일부 오류를 바로잡고 스페인어판을 발간함으로써 대한민국의 역사와 문화가 지닌 독특성이나 우수성를 세계로 널리 알리고자 했다.
